Service Delivery Consultant

 

Freelance – Brisbane - QLD

Accountabilities

Project developed that seeks to find and establish appropriate lung health support and prevention tactics for the Indigenous population of the Northern Territory.  

 Total responsibility for the administration of this project meant dealing with suppliers, getting quotes and arranging payments; maintaining records, filing systems and databases; coordination of transport, courier and postal requirements; organising meetings; managing budgets; employing and paying contract workers, correspondence management and other ancillary jobs to ensure the project was completed on time and in budget. Using Microsoft Excel, Word, Project Planner, Access and PowerPoint, Corel Filerpo (database) and a number of Adobe products to manage the project and make graphic presentations for it.

Orientation for new workers into the procedures of the telephone information and education services.

Coordination of the next LungNet News for October requires article writing and preparation, negotiations with industry experts for article content, liaison with printers and graphic artists, and organisation of volunteer workers to mail out.

Achievements

Thus far the proposal has the backing of the Aboriginal Health Service in Tennant Creek the Regional Territory Health Service and various Respiratory Physicians.
Seeding funds have already been promised by a major drug company and others are expected.

LungNet Call Centre Officer - An interim position after previous role became redundant

Accountabilities

Manage counselling, referral and advocacy services via telephone to people with lung conditions, their carers and health professionals.
Management of a national Call Centre to recruit study participants to new drug trials on an as needed basis.
Facilitation of the Education Subcommittee of Respiratory Specialists and other interested parties.
Manage volunteers within the National Secretariat office, to provide them useful and rewarding work to help The Foundation.

Achievements

Staff trained in newly formed roles
Seamless handover with no loss of support from Group Leaders or State Coordinators.
Office volunteers persuaded to remain a part of the team.

National LungNet Coordinator

 

The Australian Lung Foundation – Brisbane - QLD

Accountabilities

Manage counselling, referral and advocacy services via telephone to people with lung conditions and their carers.
Management of a national Call Centre to recruit study participants to new drug trials on an as needed basis.
Organising education seminars in all states except WA. Attending these and facilitation with State Coordinators on the day.
Publishing National LungNet News, 3 times a year, including writing, sourcing and editing articles and graphics.
Facilitation of the Education Subcommittee of Respiratory Specialists and other interested parties.
Development and delivery of training modules to nurses in various hospitals in Brisbane.
Supervision of student placements.
Supporting voluntary Sate LungNet Coordinators to engage in development of LungNet and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs.
Manage volunteers within the National Secretariat office, to provide them useful and rewarding work to help The Foundation.

Achievements

Organised and facilitated the inaugural Education Seminar in Darwin where a Northern territory State Coordinator and support groups were established.
Successfully lobbied for a face to face meeting of all State LungNet Coordinators in Sydney. The first since inception of the project in 1997. Continued communication with quarterly teleconferences and updates as news came to hand.
Increased circulation of LungNet News by 2,000 during 2003.
Maintained group numbers in spite of many of the group’s originators passing away. 6 New groups started.
Increase in Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs registered.
Brought harmony to a conflict between a voluntary State Coordinator and support groups.

Family and Children’s Services – Barkly Region – NT

Accountabilities

Responsible for overseeing child protection activities and sexual assault prevention and counselling for the Barkly region, covering an area of 283,000 square kilometres with a population of 7000 people with approximately 51% identifying as indigenous and 23% aged 0-12 years of age.
Budgetary accountability for $500,000
Ensure Health, Education and other Government departments’ honour statutory responsibilities.
Recruit, supervise and guide professional development of a diverse staff group of Aboriginal Community Workers and Social Workers.

Achievements

Relationships developed with local Aboriginal bodies, Police, Schools and various sole workers to increase quality child protection notifications.
Ensured service planning addresses local specific child protection issues, with programs that engage the community, elders, and other visiting workers in particular remote aboriginal communities.
Professional practice supervision sessions initiated

Education Project Officer

 

Asthma Foundation – Brisbane – QLD

Accountabilities

Addressing concerns for community members and health professionals about asthma management and treatment.
Training health professionals in asthma management education and health promotion techniques.
Developing resource materials for dissemination across the state.
Continually updating knowledge of clinical and non-traditional approaches to asthma management.
A representative for Asthma Queensland at information stands, performing spirometry, checking medication techniques and answering questions about various issues around asthma.
Presenting education as required outreaching to community groups, professional groups and tertiary institutions.
Conducting in-house workshops aimed at the community to increase asthma management. People who have asthma as well as professionals in the community such as pharmacists, childcare workers and community nurses attend these workshops.
Assist with student placements.

Achievements

Restructured an asthma information brochure series to present a more professional approach to information dissemination.
Brought about a consumer-focused brochure called, “Finding and Asthma Friendly Doctor. Describing what a person can expect of a doctor who uses best practice principles in the diagnosis and management of asthma. It also sets out the patient’s responsibilities and tips to increase health outcomes in their doctor patient relationship.
Constructed and maintained a Microsoft Access database to collate information from phone calls to the education team of Asthma Queensland to assist the organization to plan services people throughout Queensland.
Initiated and maintained a support group for people aged over 50 who have asthma.
Assisted in the registration and auditing of the organisation to attain and maintain RTO status.
Increased scope of training to include Health Promotion.
Conducted focus groups with young people and people over fifty years of age to determine the appropriateness of the current written information. From this information compiled a booklet for people with asthma who are over 50 years of age. Arranged and conducted further focus groups to ensure its quality.

Sunshine Coast Sexual Assault Service – Maroochydore – QLD

Accountabilities

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of a service with 4 counselling personnel and 2 admin staff covering the four shires of Caloundra, Maroochy, Noosa and Cooloola with service provision centres in two locations. The focus being on the functions of alleviating the effects of sexual violence and providing prevention programs to address the issues of sexual violence in the Community.
Budgetary responsibilities of $250,000.
Responsible for written reports to Queensland Health concerning statistical and budgetary information on a planned quarterly basis, as well as other ad hoc reports as required.
Direct service delivery included; developing and delivering training and education programs to aid in the understanding and prevention of sexual violence, attending to the counselling needs of clients in crisis, holding a small ongoing caseload of complex and/or intensive cases and facilitating successful group work programs for survivors of sexual violence.
Accountable for maintaining agency links with Health Service Providers in the region with a view to building their capacity to assist survivors of sexual violence.

Achievements

3 year strategic plan researched, written and successfully negotiated with Queensland Health.
During the contract service delivery capacity was increased by over 70 percent with no resource increase.
Relationships with Police and the District Health Service in the region formalised to address issues relating to their responses to victims of sexual violence.
Referral increase by 80%.

Hawkesbury District Health Service – Windsor – NSW

Accountabilities

Direction of health promotion activities to young people of Hawkesbury district through research of a situational analysis and asset statement.
Counselling, referral and advocacy services to young people and their supporters.
Development and delivery of various programs to High Schools, TAFE and Universities to address health issues such as sexual health, stress management and substance use issues were covered.
Membership of various committees including executive standing on Hawkesbury Youth Transport Committee.

Accountabilities

Designed, delivered and assessed subjects in Diplomas in Youth work and Welfare to address the curriculum requirements.
Addressed specific student needs as required to ensure equity.
Guided students’ placement decisions to enhance their learning opportunities.

Achievements

End of year teacher assessments by students suggested that I was firm but consistent with a good breadth of industry knowledge.
Ensured assessments built to become a practical, theory based apparatus that students could carry forward to the workplace or other studies.

TAFE Support Teacher

 

Western Sydney Institute of TAFE – Nirimba Campus – NSW

Accountabilities

Provide individual support to students who identified as having a psychiatric disability ranging from Depression to Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Write individual study plans to assist students fulfil the subject requirements.
Negotiated equitable conditions for students in areas such as exam settings.
Advocate on the students’ behalf for assignment extensions and formats.
Increased student support opportunities with other agencies to ensure dependency was not developed.

Achievements

Each student supported completed TAFE studies successfully.
90% of students supported went on to university studies.
Teachers reported the required adaptations for these students required little effort on their part.

Sexual Assault Counsellor

 

VAN Services - Wentworth Area Health Service - Penrith, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury –NSW

Accountabilities

Delivered both group work and individual therapeutic responses with an active caseload of at least one-third young people and children.
Developed and delivered community education, training and industry talks around the issues of sexual violence.
Active on an on-call roster for the coordination of after-hours sexual assault medical examinations and crisis counselling support.
Managed student placements in the Service.

Achievements

Needs analysis of adults who have experienced sexual assault in childhood to establish services to both clients and colleagues and went on co-ordinate those services.
Instrumental in cutting the waiting list for this group from two years to nil by writing and delivering a program based solidly on Health Promotion principles. (Published research available as presented to National and State level conferences)
Innovative work with Corrective Services providing counselling and group work to inmates and consultation to staff.
